DEBRA J. RIGAS - A BRIEF AUTOBIOGRAPHY

Part I: Stream of Consciousness:

There's a story set in Venice. Italy (as opposed to muscle beach, So Cal). Something to do with a woman and a rose. You may have heard of it in The Dogaressas of Venice, or as The Legend of the Boccola. I understand it. Can't explain why, nor do I need to. I hadn't even heard the tale until years into my usage of her name: Vulcana. I went so far as to create a solid portion of my life around this name. Though that's only a portion... for I am myriad and Maenad, mixed and mingled, flung astern and swimming in the stars, Phoenix and Unicorn tumbled and come out shiny like agates and tourmaline.

I have been to Samos and St. Lucia, and trails high in the Rockies. To Hawaii with Pele and the caves at Timpanogos. To swamp and desert, heiiau and coliseum. Pythagoras, yes, triangulates my course, by logic, by illumination and elimination.

The stones at Lampbi are nicer than on Samos, I think.

I think. (And those I know benefit from that trait.)

When I walk this day in form, I sense beyond it all the more reason to dive again and discover pearls beneath the shrine of all that is possible, as I take a little of this and little of that and weave it blissfully with dot here, dash of yon der... please add rose oil, and maybe pikake... or myrrh...for I've seen the soul 'enter', and I've seen it 'leave', the moanin' and groanin' both sides of bornin', the in and out, the up and aware, the I'm so done with that world - show me Veil/ the great Gateway /the Beyonder to ponder, the smashing Symphony of silent portent that calls, that calls until I cannot but listen, and fess up, and give it up and over, the mountains I have flown over, the rivers cold and icy even in July, and all leading to the constant Om, the Aum, the Ohms of power and electrical fervor so hushed as they await my vision. And somewhere in the far off distance, bells from a stone abbey move. And I laugh, and I laugh, and I laugh!

Part II: The Nitty Gritty:

Born in Japan, raised in Europe, I've lived in several parts of the world and travel often. My path has been the proverbial long and winding road, however I am grateful for every single step - the right turns, the hard lefts, dropping into the abyss, soaring into the outer reaches to ultimately find Truth as I see it.

The leg of the journey behind me usually fascinates everyone I share it with. The road AHEAD is far more fascinating to me, as every day offers new wonders and discoveries and pleasures and thoughts. I tend to create something fabulous daily, something I can move onward from with contentment. It doesn't have to be huge and elaborate, rather meaningful, no matter how simple it might seem to onlookers. It's just part of the evolving tale of my becoming. Our stories only bring us to here. To now. And my 'here and now' are mine from whatever perspective I choose. I'm a writer. It's liberating that way.

I'm a firm believer in the Golden Rule, and live by it with ease.

On Myers-Briggs, I am an INF for certain, and a hair more P than J. Or is that vice versa? In Human Design, I'm a 6/2 Generator. For those who need to know ...

I'm a bit of a night owl, but not always.

Sombreuil Rose

I love the scent of old world roses, especially Sombreuil, and certain Moss and Bourbon, but I want to re-find the blue lily.

I've turned wood with a lathe and loved it. Bits of bubinga, walnut and koa flying, and the earthy smell caught in every spin.

Baking and making fresh soups in the fall and around the holidays are a pleasure.

I live, eat, breathe, sleep, laugh, dance, drum, walk, work, visit, and so forth with the full knowing of the soul's unlimited capabilities in timeless perfection.

I own a custom built horse hide/juniper rim/cedar stand singing drum built by a wonderful young man named Bear, who lives in Ojai. I play it on occasion.

I've written, edited, ghosted, and doctored articles, blogs, media, short-stories, websites, collections, novels, screenplays.

I read. Usually have several books going at once. I read an average of three books a week and have read thirty a month. I was raised on the classics, as well as fairy tales, mythology, history, and biographies of those who have contributed to the betterment of our planet.

Marina

John O'Donohue's Beauty is a new favorite title. I love Marina Tsvetayeva's poetry. My tops list includes: Atlas Shrugged, Bel Canto, everything by Thomas Moore. Disappearance of the Universe. Wide Sargasso Sea. Leaves of Grass. The Hours. ACIM. Twilight of the Celtic Gods. Up Island. Old Cockatoo. The Perfect Storm. The Power of Now. Walden. David Copperfield. Moby Dick. Arrowsmith. To Kill A Mockingbird. Fall On Your Knees. Don Quixote. L'Etranger. Possession. The Mabinogian. To The Lighthouse. On The Road. The Magus. Cape Cod. Call of the Wild. The Woman Pope.

My education is varied, having learned from colleges or universities as well as the streets when I was much younger. But schools didn't give me wisdom.

Sofia! Enter!

I value truth, honor, dignity, sweetness, good medicine, all cards on the table, responsibility, beauty, loyalty, freedom, exploration, joy, sensitivity, sensuality, nature, compassion and INTELLIGENCE. TRUE intelligence. At every level.

I've sailed thousands of miles. Hiked hundreds. Seen many a great museum. Planted bazillions of flowers, herbs, veggies, and ideas. Wrote a play at age 11.

I cherish dolphins; have been hugged by Amma umpteen times; howled with wolves; made chains from daisies; hunted agates and seaside treasures; designed and built gardens; delivered babies; made films; produced plays; raised 3 incredible children; helped people die.

I'm passionate about life. It's all an illusion. Why not make the most of any of it? I'm an explorer. I seek. I find. I dig it.

And I write about it, focused on Mastery while honoring the Mysteries.

Life is but a dream. Row on!
