OVERVIEW

Crystal Ball by Waterhouse, pre-Rafaelit 1849-1917The term "metaphysics" has become a catch-all phrase in modern times for virtually anything that has to do with the world beyond that which is physically palpable. For understanding the origins of the phrase, you will need to study Aristotle, not to mention a number of branches of philosophy. Still, those people who utilize certain methods and tools to elevate their consciousness can turn to many concepts, thought and belief systems, as well as physical tools. Training the mind to rise above the limits of physicality or what seems to be "real" is a process that takes concentrated effort over a long period of illusory time, to get beyond the physical world and more in touch with the spiritual, non-palpable, aspects of life.

INTUITION AND MIND

The most important metaphysical tool is the mind. That part of you which thinks, and is not something you can physically touch. Do you think for yourself or are you influenced by everything outside you to such a point that control of your life becomes murky and unstable? Or do you wake every day to beautiful and uplifting thoughts, setting forth with joy in your heart? Learn about the amygdala and pineal gland regarding brain function on the physical level to complement your understanding of how to train your mind in more positive and productive thinking.

Many metaphysical practitioners use their thoughts to consciously determine the outcome of the intentions for their lives. At some point you will need to step back, sending your thoughts into Divine Is-ness, and allow what will be to be. Trust is a tool that shines with thought polishing.

Choose your thoughts wisely. How you react or respond to the world derives from ego-based or soul-based impulses and belief systems that you have chosen or that are patterned over time since childhood (or possibly throughout lifetimes). Becoming adept with your intuition and discernment will help you to weed out invasive energies, avoid unpleasant encounters, make better choices and solidify your life's purpose.

MEDITATION AND PRAYER

Belief systems operate at conscious and subconscious levels. Anyone can remove old debilitating thought programming and learn ways to remain happy, calm, and peaceful in spite of what appears to be happening in the world around them. Meditation is a method of inward focus which guides your spirit toward aligning with higher thinking as well as moving into connecting with Universal Oneness or God. Meditation and prayer are important non-physical tools that are used regularly by spiritual seekers, either alone or in groups, rites and rituals. Individual daily prayer and practice in silence stills the mind, unifies you with your perceived Creator , and will guide your life from a place of kindness, compassion and appreciation - all of which are major tools for living.

ELECTRONICS AND MAGNETICS

Currently available in the marketplace are physical tools thought to assist with metaphysical studies, or to help and heal the physical body through vibration and application of certain devices. These include radionics machines, orgone generators, intent amplifiers, cell-phone and EMF (electromagnetic frequency) blockers, energy boosters, water clearing tools, aura reading tools, and many others. The scientific community may not support these devices and some people think they only provide a placebo effect. However, the research continues and many metaphysicians feel that science and alternative thinking have begun to merge. If you feel drawn to a certain electronic device that purports to alleviate health problems or mental blockages, be sure you do the inner work as well, toward shifting your thinking and awakening to further possibilities. If you follow your well-practiced intuition, you will be able to discern which, if any, of these will truly serve your life.

OTHER TOOLS

The use of quartz and other crystals for transmitting energy is prevalent among serious metaphysicians. Divination rods and cards, malas and prayer beads, pendulums, drums, incense, candles, runes and many other physical items are used to assist metaphysical students and seekers in their goals. The study of numbers, or numerology, and the study of celestial bodies, or astrology are sometimes used as tools, too. Contacting Ascended Masters, Saints, Angels and so forth is done through prayer and meditation or by using some of these tools. The spiritual aim is to move beyond ego, or the "lower self", to become a better person who can contribute meaningfully to life. Countless techniques exist toward such inner-personal development, so use careful discernment when choosing tools to benefit your chosen path.

I invite you to read my book Everyone's A Guru to learn more about my experience with and thoughts on 111 'metaphysical tools'.
